Macroeconomics and Model Uncertainty
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper provides some reflections on the new macroeconomics of model uncertainty. Model uncertainty is argued to have important positive and normative implications for macroeconomic analysis. We provide a general discussion of the relationship between macroeconomic models that assume a specific model and those that do not and provide some examples from the existing literature. Our discussion also provides some suggestions on directions for future research in this area. William A. Oil Price Uncertainty in the Iranian Economy
T he relationship between the price of oil and the level of economic activity is a fundamental empirical issue in macroeconomics. In this research, by using a multivariate GARCH-in-Mean VAR, we try to investigate direct effects of uncertainty of oil price on macroeconomics of Iran by using annually data from 1965 to 2013.Results show that uncertainty about oil prices had a negative a...
متن کاملHump - shape Uncertainty , Agency Costs and Aggregate Fluctuations ∗
Previously measured uncertainty shocks using the U.S. data show a hump-shape time path: Uncertainty rises for two years before its decline. Current literature on the effects uncertainty on macroeconomics, including housing, has not accounted for this observation. Consequently, the literature on uncertainty and macroeconomics is divided on the effects and the propagation mechanism of uncertainty...
متن کامل° 2008 - 02 Inflation targeting drawbacks in the absence of a ' natural ' anchor
The economic performances of the Eurozone look weaker than those of the United States over the period 1999-2006, in spite of the fact that the former applies more thoroughly the 'new macroeconomics' governance rules concerning public deficits and inflation control. The literature emphasizes Alan Greenspan's pragmatism when discussing the relative success of the Fed, but the reasons why pragmati...
متن کاملSparse Seemingly Unrelated Regression Modelling: Applications in Econometrics and Finance
We present a sparse seemingly unrelated regression (SSUR) model to generate substantively relevant structures in the high-dimensional distributions of seemingly unrelated model (SUR) parameters. This SSUR framework includes prior specifications, posterior computations using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods, evaluations of model uncertainty, and model structure searches. Extensions of the SSUR m...
متن کاملComplementarities and macroeconomics: Poisson games
In many situations in macroeconomics strategic complementarities arise, and agents face a coordination problem. An important issue, from both a theoretical and a policy perspective, is equilibrium uniqueness. We contribute to this literature by focusing on the macroeconomic aspect of the problem: the number of potential innovators, speculators e.t.c. is large. In particular, we follow Myerson (...
